Are you feeling overwhelmed with all that you have to do as a mommy, homemaker, and wife? Here is a plan that will save you from feeling overwhelmed.
I know from my own personal experience that life runs so much smoother when things are in their proper place and you aren’t tripping over toys and laundry. I have more quality time to spend with my kids and my husband when my house is in order.
I once heard it said that laundry and toys seem to multiply like bunnies. The laundry and toys scatter around right before your eyes. Keeping on top of all of the mundane tasks is possible and can help lift your spirits throughout the day.
Here are a couple of QUICK TIPS:
Go through your whole house, closets, under beds, garages, attics, everywhere, and DE-CLUTTER! If you haven’t used it in the last 3 months, THROW IT AWAY (except, of course, for baby clothes and furniture, if you are planning for more kids.)
Keep in mind that our memories should be kept in our hearts and minds, not in dusty boxes. If it isn’t very valuable, you might consider getting rid of it.
Second, you might want to invest in plastic bins and labels. Organize crafts, books, off-season clothes, etc. And stack them neatly somewhere out of the way.
Lastly, and this is my favorite, and will save you hours of cleaning time. Go through that scary toy box too. You will be surprised at how few toys the kids actually PLAY with, and how many toys just get dumped on the floor.
Another good tip: The first thing I do when my kids get new toys is throw away all the “extra pieces” that come with it. I usually have to wait till my kids aren’t looking, but those extra pieces usually just clutter, and the kids don’t use them.
All of this de-cluttering will help you be able to take fresh breath of air, and make your daily house work easier.
NOW-Here is the great house cleaning plan. I actually devised this plan from the wonderful website, www.flylady.com. This website has great ideas and will motivate you to be a better mom and housewife.
Step 1: Make a list of everything that you do every day. This is an example of what mine looks like:
Rise and shine
Make bed
Put in one load of laundry
Clean breakfast dishes
Sweep
Load/unload dishwasher
Think about dinner (crock-pots are a must!)
Check calendar/make appointments
This will be your morning routine, and should be tailored to what you do. Also make a nightly routine.
Step 2: Make a list of ALL the jobs that you do in one week. Everything from changing sheets, to cleaning the fridge, or planning weekly menus. I even add to my list, grooming animals, or cleaning out my purse/diaper bag. EVERYTHING! Then to the side of each chore write how long it would take you to do. Sweeping may take 5 minutes, while cleaning bathrooms make take 30.
Step 3: On a separate piece of paper write Monday- Saturday. Sunday is my house-work free day! Then start dividing the jobs evenly so that each day has approximately the same amount of house work, according to time.
This is a great plan because you know exactly what each day holds in store. You won’t worry about what isn’t getting done in a day because you know that everything that you have to do has its own special day. I will be the first one to admit that Schedules STINK! I am not a schedule person. But stick with it! It may take a while to get use to it, but it does work. I promise!
Make sure you stay on top of the de-cluttering. The fly lady has great suggestions on de-cluttering.
WE all know that we are better mom’s when are lives are in order. OUR kids are the most important thing to us, and this plan will allow us to be even better for them. AND there is always clean laundry!!!

These are great suggestions! I like to organize and I go through our house quite often. It might sound weird, but I really enjoy it. I love having a schedule that keeps me on track with everything I want and need to do. I struggled before when I didn’t have a schedule to follow, and even though I don’t always follow it to the “T”, it is a great reference point and guideline for me to have. I think these suggestions are a great starting point to help others who struggle with these issues.
